Exhibition at Crafts Association of British Columbia:

Mes Anges, Portraits in Glass by Laura Kaufman Weisbord

Exhibit: Sept. 2 -Oct. 2, 2005, Opening Reception: Thursday, September 1, 2005, 6 - 8pm

"Mes Anges" refers to the notion of angels, both as patrons of the arts and elegant spirits. The love, humour, gentleness, friendship, and intelligent feedback provided by Laura's angels are reflected in this series of portraits made of fused, kilnformed and traditionally stained and painted glass. This will mark her sixth solo exhibition and her first solo show in Vancouver BC, where she now resides.

Her vision of portraiture in kiln formed glass is that the shifting light, either through the artworks or on them, is much like the changing expressions on the faces of the subjects.

Moreover, the fragility and strength of the medium of glass, (much like the material itself) is similar to the human vessel which holds the spirit of each individual "Ange" who has been celebrated in this exhibition.
Consequently, the beauty of glass enhances the spirit that she tries to portray in her subjects. The history and longevity of the material of glass used as an art form strengthens the meaning of these images. Finally, the journey of making artworks with her head, hands and heart continues and offers her, the maker, the joy of creating a committed work of art.
