Captain Javalyn's Evening

'Twas the night before race-day, and all through the yard,
Not a creature was stirring, not even the guard;
Each ponygirl snug in her stall was confined,
And the guard was far too much whiskied and wined.

The ponygirls' harnesses kept them quite still,
But from my apartment far up on the hill,
I heard some strange noises that didn't sound right:
What troubles awaited in the deep of the night?

I checked on my partner, asleep in her straps,
And then donned my boots and two lead-weighted saps.
If some sort of trouble were abrew at the border,
I'd best get there quickly and put things in order.

As I crept down the steps, I could hear whispered threats
To break into the stalls and wreak harm to my pets;
I had heard that my chief rival, Liz, would go far
To see that her ponygirls won the gold star!

When I reached the guardpost, I rang the alarm
And turned on the floodlights that lit up the farm.
My guards tumbled out of their quarters in haste
To see just how many foes had to be faced.

Well, it turned out that only four girls had invaded,
So soon the fight started and fierce blows were traded;
Before long, the raiders were forced to surrender,
And all of them knew that we wouldn't be tender.

The result was my victory and the addition
Of four new ponygirls under submission.
They were quickly held down and heavily chained,
And told that tomorrow they would have to be trained.

Each one was confined in a great oaken stock,
Her neck and her wrists held with many a lock,
And to show them their mission was evil and wrong,
Each one was whipped with a metal-tipped thong.

The next day, of course, they were marched in a train
To show that their Mistress's plans were in vain;
I laughed at her frustrated, angry dismay -
And my ponygirls won every race of the day!
